They married on July 25, 1943 and raised three children in a life marked by travel and adventure, moving from place to place around the world. When Joseph retired after thirty years of service, they chose Austin to plant roots—and in 1969, they built their dream home at 8602 Silver Ridge Drive. Joseph personally oversaw its construction, visiting the site daily to ensure every detail reflected their vision. By then, their children were grown, and the home became a place of gathering, stability, and quiet pride.
Years passed, and the home remained a constant. After Joseph’s passing in 2004, Mary continued to live there, surrounded by memories, until she transitioned to assisted living in 2010. The home was lovingly cared for and later entrusted to their children. In time, their youngest daughter, Linda Whitsitt Bendele, and her husband, Marvin, chose to carry the legacy forward—purchasing the home from her siblings with a heartfelt intention: to preserve it, enhance it, and one day return to it in retirement.
With that vision, they thoughtfully expanded and improved the home beginning in 2013, always with an eye toward quality, comfort, and longevity. Even as it was rented over the years, it was never simply an investment—it was their future home, cared for with intention and pride.
